Governor Kim Reynolds plans to hold a series of town hall-style meetings across the state of Iowa and an effort to sell her key legislative priority to the voters. Iowa Field Report was notified of automated calls made to voters in Wapello and Mahaska counties on February 7th. The calls left a recorded message inviting them to events at Smokey Row Coffee in Oskaloosa and Vine Coffee House in Ottumwa. When asked by Iowa Field Report, the Governor’s office declined to comment on the robocalls. Iowa Field Report has independently confirmed that the town halls taking place in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa are the first of several that the Governor will host around the state. Governor will likely make a formal announcement on the town hall meetings at her weekly press conference on Wednesday.

The Invest in Iowa Act is the Governor’s signature legislative priority for the 2020 legislative session. She announced it during her condition of the state address in January. The Invest in Iowa act would fully fund the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund via an increase in the state sales tax while lowering property taxes to offset the rise. The act would also provide funding to the state’s mental health care system.

A town hall meeting will be held at Smokey Row on Wednesday, February 12th at 2:30PM.

 

Smokey Row is located at 109 S. Market Street in Oskaloosa.

 

It’s a great opportunity to hear about her efforts to provide tax relief for Iowa families, improve water quality and quality of life, and strengthen our mental health system.
