For National Police Week, Des Moines Police Department Officers conducted a memorial for fallen officers who gave their lives while serving. The event was held on Count Avenue River Bridge from 9 am-to 1pm to honor all of those who have and are currently serving their communities.
DMPD Police Chief Dana Wingert and DMPOBA President Don Ouiment gave remarks to the crowd of officers and others congregated to give their appreciation. Other agencies such as The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and The West Des Moines Police Department were also there displaying various investigative equipment to attendees and giving out snacks to all those who came.
“As we close out Police Week 2022, we’d like to thank all who joined us this week in remembering the officers who are no longer with us, and celebrating those who continue to selflessly serve our communities-We were honored to host the Des Moines Police Officers Burial Association memorial Friday. Our active and retired members who have passed away, and their survivors, will forever be a part of the DMPD family,” posted Des Moines Police Department on Facebook thanking all of those who came in attendance.
After the event, officers were seen taking pictures and cheering on Girls On The Run Of Central Iowa Runners for their annual 5k race.
